The increasing
implementation of IT in healthcare has created an
urgent need for today’s nursing professionals to
acquire health IT domain knowledge so as to deliver
evidence-based, knowledge-driven patient care.
With nursing professionals in the frontline of
patient care, many healthcare institutions,
government agencies and IT vendors are increasingly
recognizing the importance of nursing involvement in
the design, implementation and evaluation of health
IT systems. This, in turn, has driven the demand
for nursing The term, “Nursing Informatics”, is given to the “multidisciplinary scientific endeavor of analyzing, formalizing and modeling how nurses collect and manage data, process data into information and knowledge, make knowledge-based decisions and inferences for patient care, and use this empirical and experiential knowledge in order to broaden the scope and enhance the quality of their professional practice” (Goossen, 1996). Recognizing the importance of Nursing Informatics training for today’s nursing professionals and the dearth of training opportunities in this field in Asia, Gateway Consulting has taken the initiative to offer a 2-day International Course on Nursing Informatics to be held in Singapore from 4-5 July 2008. |
